The museum

Featuring an innovative visitor experience

that combines over 600 artefacts with interactive and educational features – including video mapping, animated busts and hands-on areas where you can handle objects and carry out experiments – discover the history of Alesia from prehistory to the present day.

The permanent exhibition consists of a chronological corridor leading to areas that trace the major historical milestones that have shaped the region: the Gauls, the siege of Alesia, the Gallo-Roman town, the Christian period with the cult of Saint Reine, and finally the Gallic myth.

HERE, you can not only look but also touch and learn.

A dialogue between history and landscape

Architect Bernard Tschumi has designed a building in which the interior route provides the keys to understanding the landscape. The permanent glass-enclosed walkway and the panoramic terrace invite visitors to observe the traces of the past that surround them.

A remarkable piece of architecture

that embodies a powerful dialogue between history and modernity. Its circular shape symbolises the encirclement of the Gauls by Roman troops, whilst opening out onto the majestic surrounding landscape.
