The Siege and Battles of Alesia
In the footsteps of Caesar and Vercingetorix
Julius Caesar versus Vercingetorix. The Roman legions against the united Gallic warriors. The fate of independent Gaul was decided in the space of a few weeks at Alesia.
Who were these combatants? How were the armies organised? What really happened during this siege — and how has archaeology helped us piece together the story?
This exhibition retraces the events of 52 BC through eight illustrated panels.
Eight kakemonos (85 × 200 cm), in a carry bag (95 × 35 × 35 cm): Julius Caesar / Vercingetorix / The Gallic army / The Roman army / The Gallic Wars / The siege of Alesia / After the siege / Rediscovery through archaeology
